A lack of reliable information, cultural barriers, the complexity of local markets, the prevalence of counterfeiting, as well as limited time and opportunities to travel, often make it difficult for independent tea houses to access high-quality, genuine and authentic teas capable of truly reflecting their approach and values.

Each project has its own identity and needs to be approached in its singularity in order to identify and source the teas that truly correspond to it. Olivier Schneider brings his experience and field knowledge to these projects, whether defining a selection, searching for specific producers, terroirs or teas, or providing guidance on a particular project.

Sourcing

Since 2011, Olivier Schneider has managed Puerh Asia Ltd, a Hong Kong-based company specialising in the sourcing and export of high-quality teas in small lots, directly from the countries where they are produced.

Over the years, Olivier Schneider has built an extensive network of small family producers, workshops, tea factories and collectors of aged teas throughout the Golden Triangle, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Malaysia, which he now makes available to independent tea houses. He favours artisanal and environmentally responsible practices, a positive impact for producers and, above all, the development of long-term relationships. In some cases, he has worked with the same families of small producers for nearly twenty years.

Depending on the needs of a project, this may involve searching for a particular terroir, producer or teas meeting specific requirements, or even assisting in the design and production of a tea developed specifically for that project. For projects whose needs or volumes are more modest and do not allow for the constraints of exclusive sourcing, Olivier Schneider has developed a shared sourcing service: regular selections of rare lots and small-production teas are offered directly from producing countries to a limited network of independent tea houses.
